Torres' coach, Michael Lohberg, was stricken with a rare, potentially fatal blood disorder that has left his star swimmer devastated and prone to crying jags two weeks before the Beijing Games.

The left fielder missed Wednesday's game in Seattle, but manager Terry Francona had said earlier that he hoped Ramirez would be able to return for the start of the Yankees series at Fenway Park.
